Community Food Day is about discovering, understanding and participating in our local food system. We would like to partner with area citizens and businesses that play an active role in this food system. Valley Natural Foods is sponsoring this event along with Homegrown South.
Community Food Day schedule:
10:00-11:00 a.m. Facilitated conversation of food system discovery
During this highlighted activity we hope to gain insights about the current status of our local food system, identify gaps, and suggest possible solutions to these gaps. Lisa Horn of the Eagan Resource Center will facilitate this conversation.
11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Community open house
During the open house portion members of the local community are invited to come and learn about their local food system.
The goal is to have a broad range of food system participants so the community can gain access to information and locally grown produce and products.
Homegrown South is a new grassroots initiative focused on creating a healthy and sustainable community based food network in the south metro. Homegrown South is working to bring together key partners from local government, area businesses, community organizations, non-profits and residents to build a healthy, local food system in Dakota County. This initiative seeks to expand our community’s ability to grow, process, distribute, eat and compost healthier, sustainable, foods grown locally here in our community. Homegrown South seeks to: Improve Health, Support Local Farmers the Local Economy and Save Money, Preserve Farmland and the Environment, Increase Food Safety and Security, Encourage Self-Sufficiency and Healthy Communities.
